An important part of the mortgage application process is the underwriting stage. This is where our underwriters assess documentation such as proof of ID and proof of income to ensure we are able to lend to you.

As a property purchase is a legal transaction, solicitors are needed to complete the legal work involved. As part of this, solicitors must complete their own checks, called due diligence.

This can mean requesting and checking documentation you may have already provided during the underwriting stage. Whilst we will always try to make the process as smooth as possible, this is an important part of the mortgage process.

If you have any questions, speak to your mortgage advisor and they will be able to assist.
