Soft credit checks aren't visible to other companies, and they won’t impact your score.
A soft credit check is used when:
You search your own credit report
A company searches your credit report as part of an identity check
Hard credit checks are recorded on your credit file, and each hard credit check may lower your credit score.
A hard credit check is used when:
You apply for a loan, credit card or mortgage
You apply to a utility company
You apply for a mobile phone contract
Generation Home will only run a hard credit check at application stage (after you've had an offer accepted on a property).
If you would like to ensure that your credit score falls within an acceptable range, we can run a soft credit check before you submit your mortgage application. This soft credit check shows us your credit score and credit behaviour, but doesn't leave a mark on your credit record.
