What is a maintenance payment?

A maintenance payment is an arrangement where one parent makes regular payments towards the care of a child or children.

It can either be a private arrangement, or it can be determined by Child Maintenance services and/or a Court of Law.

Can I use maintenance payments as part of my income?

We can consider maintenance payments as income if it is court-ordered, or you have a Child Support Maintenance agreement. We will also ask to see proof of this as part of your mortgage application. We would require:

● Confirmation the agreement will be in place for a minimum of 5 years from the start of the mortgage AND

● A satisfactory track record of receipt being provided – 3 months bank statements

When completing our affordability calculator, there is a section under income where you can include these payments.

If you have any other questions about maintenance payments, please reach out to us via email or live chat.
