In order to use a Forces Help to Buy with a Gen H mortgage, you need to already be approved by the FHTB scheme.

What is the Forces Help to Buy scheme? (FHTB)

The Forces Help to Buy scheme enables servicemen and servicewomen to borrow up to 50% of their salary (Up to £25,000), interest-free, to buy their first home or move to another property on assignment or as their families needs change.

This can be used alongside a Lifetime ISA or a standard Help to Buy equity loan.

Can I use the Forces Help to Buy Scheme with Gen H?

Yes. To use a Forces Help to Buy with a Gen H mortgage, you need to already be approved by the FHTB scheme.

You can find more information on this scheme here.

Here are some things to consider when applying for the Forces Help to Buy scheme.

  • You are unable to use income and deposit boosters if you plan to use the Forces Help to Buy Scheme. (This is because the Help to Buy rules state that you must not own any other residential property, or have your name attached to the deeds of another residential property, in the UK or abroad. The home purchase through an equity loan must be the only home you will own.)

  • The deposit can come solely from the forces help to buy scheme, and we could consider up to 90% loan to value on a new build, and 95% loan to value on a standard property. Read more about our criteria for this here.

  • Speak with your mortgage expert on any new build incentives to see if this is acceptable
