When checking your credit score, there are a number of different providers you can use. The score they give can differ from provider to provider.

When completing our mortgage in principle, you can complete a soft credit search. This will provide us with information on your credit score, as well as previous credit conduct, this includes any missed payments or CCJs for example. It allows us to check that you meet our credit requirements.

As a lender, we use your credit file to determine whether we are able to lend to you based on past behaviours. Credit reference agencies use this information to predict the likelihood of issues with payments in the future for us. This can mean that the score provided to us can differ from the score you see when checking your own credit score. This will be taken into account when assessing your application.

You can get a free copy of your credit report from the credit reference agencies such as Experian, Equifax, TransUnion.

A soft credit search will not leave a footprint on your credit file and will not be visible to other lenders.
